Rhett, FC/AFC/Can FC/AFC Someday’s On the Edge made Gordon Setter history for the second time when he won the Amateur Limited Gun Dog stake at the Williamette Weimaraner trial August 9th to finish his Amateur Field Championship. Rhett became the first Gordon Setter in history to attain both his Open and Amateur field championships in both the U.S. and Canada. He made history the first time on September 11,, 2011 (his fifth birthday) when he finished his Amateur title in Canada. He had already achieved his field championships in the U.S. and Canada prior to that date.
Rhett was recently named the Gordon Setter Club of America’s Gun Dog of 2013. This award is based on points earned by the number of dogs defeated at field trials during the year. Rhett ‘s other achievements include being the Gordon Setter of the Year in the Northwest for four straight years, runnerup in the Canadian Chukar Championship, and being in the Top Ten rankings of all dogs competing in field trials in Canada last year and in 2011.
Rhett is owned by Amy and George Lutz and was handled to his Amateur title by George.
The Club wishes a big congratulations to George and Amy on their fantastic year with Rhett!
Changes are ahead again in 2014 for our Annual Specialty. We are moving with the Gig Harbor Kennel Club shows to the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton, WA. Our "old" grounds in Shelton have deteriorated over the years and this year won't have any sanitary facilities. This was unacceptable. The Event Coordinator and Show Chair, Barb Young-Tompkinson and Judith Larkin, went to Bremerton to check out the new area and met with members of the Gig Harbor Show Committee to settle on where we would hold our Specialty and where our members would be parked. The facilities are far superior to the ones in Mason County.
Another change for this year only...PNWGSC will be holding only ONE specialty. With the GSCA National only ONE week after our Specialty, we anticipate lower entries. We will return to our usual events next year.
Our premium will be posted as soon as AKC gives us final approval for our judges...any day. Look for it to be posted here.
We are accepting credit card entries again this year. There will be a $3.00 charge for US entries and $5.00 for Canadian entries to cover the cost of bank fees levied on the club.
Hope you will join us for all the festivities. We always have so much fun. Come and join in.

A good time was had by all.

The trial set for March 22-23, 2013 ay Scattercreek, Rochester, WA is completed and a great time was had by all. See our Events section for Amy Lutz's report of the trial. A large entry led to a very successful time.
Rosebud (left) was the big winner in Open Derby. Read all about it!
Times change and so does the PNW Specialties. This year both of our Specialties were held on the same day...September 21st. Our morning event was judged by esteemed judge John Lawreck, who came from the east just for us! Our afternoon event was judged by long-time Gordon owner/breeder Richard Quaco from Colorado.
Our Puppy Sweeps judges were Mrs. Mary Quaco, CO and Miss Stacy Duncan, WA, morning and afternoon respectively.
Because these were our very first events as a licensed AKC club, we are able to offer Veteran Sweepstakes and Awards of Merit for the first time. We planned a very special Veteran Sweepstakes to complement the Scottish heritage of our dogs.
The Fall Field Trial event was held at Scattercreek Wildlife Management Area, Rochester, WA, on September 15th & 16th. Our club shared the weekend with the Weimeraner Club. Ours started when the Weimeraner club ended on Saturday.
On March 24 and 25 at Scattercreek Wildlife Management, South Unit in Rochester, WA, the Pacific Northwest Gordon Setter Club hosted a Field Trial. It was a great success. Read all about it in our Spring newsletter!
Look for our next one in the Fall.
As of February, 2012, the Pacific Northwest Gordon Setter Club is licensed by the AKC to hold events under our own name. Up until now (for 30 years, actually) we have been holding our events as an area committee of our parent club, the Gordon Setter Club of America. It was an uphill battle and took two years to complete, but all of it was worth it. Congratulations to all the members of the PNWGSC on their efforts on behalf of our club. first
Look for information about upcoming events in the next few weeks.
This year's Pacific Northwest Sportsmen's Exhibition in Puyallup, WA was another huge success. What better place to show the sportsmen what a wonderful breed we have. Our black and tans can do anything! George Joyner chaired the committee and set up a beautiful place to showcase our Gordons. January 25-29, 2012 saw the Gordons showing their stuff again!. See you there next year.
Our club has been accepted by the AKC as an independently licensed club for Hunt/Field Events. After completing two sanctioned Field Trials and Hunt Tests, and presenting our paperwork, the AKC has recognized us. This means we will hold licensed events on our own without our parent club. The PNWGSC is holding their first Field Trial in March. Look for news here.
The PNWGSC completed their final qualifying field matches on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Scattercreek Wildlife Recreation Area near Rochester, WA.
Match Secretary, Amy Lutz organized a great event with Chair, Frank Elduen.
Frank and Bruce were the fabulous bird planters.
First Place in the Field Trial went to Gordon Setter "Rhett", FC/Can FC Someday's On the Edge. Third place went to English Setter, "Ike", FC Stirling's 5Star General JH.
There were no qualifiers in the Hunt Test. Several club members took advantage of the opportunity to try their Gordons out in the Hunt Test for the first time. The conditions weren't optimal for bird scenting, but they had a great time nonetheless.
Pending AKC acceptance, the field portion of our bid for independence is completed.
Thank you to all the members who were instrumental in this achievement.
The Gordon Setter Club of America honored several of our member's Gordons this year. We are very proud of them and send a huge congratulations to all. It was well-deserved!

Jim and Ilone Macduff (above left) have spent the last 20 years celebrating the Gathering of the Clans in the Pacific NW by heading the Celtic Kennel each year on the last weekend in July. They have been joined by Mike & Barb Webb (above right) in the organization of the Kennel which this year continued to be the #1 attraction of the Highland Games in Enumclaw, WA.
After leading the Celtic Kennel in the parade of the clans in their club-made tams, the Gordons settle back to hold court and get ready to strut their stuff. Each year there are demonstrations by the Celtic breeds in Going to Ground (Terriers), Obedience (Gordon-Bill Greene and Laura Burns), Rally (Gordon-Mike Webb), Pointing (Gordons-Amy & George Lutz), and Conformation (All Celtic Breeds). In between demonstrations, visitors meet the dogs and ask a million questions especially about the Gordons...."What kind of dog is that? Is that a kind of Rottweiler? I never saw that kind before." Hundreds of people come through the Kennel and, as Gordons is the largest contingent, spend time smiling and petting our beautiful dogs.
Many members of our club come and bring their dogs just to enjoy the people and the bagpipes. Saturday night brings a great club barbecue where club members join and enjoy each other's company. What a wonderful opportunity to enjoy our Gordons and educate the public about our breed and the same time.
Six members of our club and their three amazing Gordons are in the top ten Gordons in the country.
