PNWGSC celebrated it's first Hunt Test as a licensed AKC club in May. May 18-19 wasn't as sunny and warm as the club hoped it would be, but the rain held off. The grounds at the Acme Hunt Club in Deming, WA that had been bone dry the week before due to the dry sunny spell we had, became soggy and wet after two days of heavy rain...AND IT WAS COLD! We were chilled, but the dogs were ready to run.
We had a smaller than anticipated entry, but it was filled with Gordons, which is always a joy to see. Our judges appreciated the quality of the runs as well. Chukar were the anticipated finds and many a shot was heard. Many of the entrants qualified and their owners/handlers relished those orange ribbons.
Hospitality was provided by George and Kathy Joyner and they did a marvelous job. No one went away hungry after Jack Daniels BBQ chicken sandwiches and salads on Saturday (my personal fave) and Brats, sauerkraut and salads on Sunday. The club would like to sincerely thank them for all their hard work and support of our club.
Judges Larry Schwerdt, Anna Maria Marchionne, Laura Myles and Tina Lacey did a great job. Laura and Tina slugged around in the field on foot! Kudos to them! The consensus seemed to be that the grounds were good, but we need to consider July rather than May when they might be much drier.
The club would like to sincerely thank all those who participated and or supported us by showing up at the Hunt Club. We have a great club and this was proof positive.
See you all next year.
Look on our calendar page for a map to the site. Hope to see you there!
The Spring field trial was held on March 22-23 at the Scatter Creek, South Unit. Though
the weather was cool, it didn’t rain for the two days which made all of the participants very
We had a total of 67 entries which was a large amount of dogs to run in two days. Thanks to the great cooperation of all the trialers, the judges and the committee, we finished by mid-afternoon on Saturday. The Seatac Club followed us, also with a large entry.
Sandy Pratt with the help of her friend, Dave, provided delicious homemade soup and bread for lunches both days. Janet Grunbok, Bruce Ulness and chairperson George Lutz did the majorityof the bird planting. Janet and Bruce also made sure that the water troughs were full, and thanksto Janet for bringing a trough and for Bruce for buying a trough for the trial. Blake Bostrom and his wife, Cheryl, newbies to the field trial world, allowed us to use their truck for a allowed us to use their truck for the dog shuttle for all the stakes which was greatly appreciated.
The Bostroms dog, Someday’s Sweet Rosebud, (pictured above) had a great field trial debut. She won the Open Derby, placed Amateur fourth in the Amateur Walking Puppy at our trial, and placed third in the Seatac Open Derby. Someday’s Zeke, owned and handled by John Mankowski, placed third in the Seatac Open Puppy stake. John is an associate member of the club.
